In a bizarre crossover event that defies usual predictions, Ubisoft has revealed an in-game partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, providing no-cost extra story content for Shadows players.

Strange Mission Disclosed

According to the formal statement, "A mysterious encounter leads characters Naoe and Yasuke into a new mission, where rumors of banned ceremonies and monstrous transformations reverberate through the shadows." The plot presents a "unusually attired woman named Ada" who assigns the duo with journeying into the Gemstone Grotto—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her companion from a clandestine cult.

The adventure centers on "bizarre trials and a terrifying foe" and is available to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Familiar Places and Transformations

The teaser highlights the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was previously where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through eras. The trailer ends with a powerful moment showing a character, probably the prisoner, transforming into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Items and Bonus Material

Players who successfully complete the adventure will acquire an special katana in addition to multiple items secreted throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also contains in-store Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-based attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Exclusive weapons
• Survey Corps steed

Latest Free Story Content

This release also adds the game's newest no-cost story content, titled "A Puzzlement." This lighthearted adventure partners Naoe and Yasuke as they trade characteristic abilities: Naoe debuts a theatrical version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-lethal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Mystery" also contains a new environmental puzzle that may eventually explain some unanswered questions from the main storyline.

Earlier Japanese Animation Crossovers

This represents hardly the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with famous anime series. The series earlier showcased a 2020 crossover story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla informally contained a quest that unmistakably echoed the famous series One-Punch Man.
