American Military Executes Deadly Strike in Pacific, Leading to 4 Deaths
According to a high-ranking defense official, the American armed forces executed a lethal strike on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.
“A US joint task force carried out a deadly attack on a craft linked to a terrorist group in international waters. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a established drug smuggling route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. All four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no US military forces were injured.”
Context and Prior Strikes
The statement follows a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and other crimes, pledging to increase the military presence.
Only on the previous day, the Pentagon stated it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, killing eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 strikes have killed at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
Government Defends Tactics Amid Scrutiny
The administration has encountered increasing demands to release video of a September 2nd vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a successful operation, arguing it has stopped drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the limits of legal military action.
Although the administration has stated the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, remarks from a top official appeared to suggest a wider political objective. In a recently published interview, the senior advisor remarked the leader “aims to keep on blowing boats up until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”
This suggests the military campaign may be linked to a push to remove Venezuela's sitting government.
