The older brother of the perpetrator said his parents "lost control" of their son and he worried his younger sibling would murder a member of their family, a hearing has learned.

The individual, a teenager, fatally attacked three children at a celebrity-themed lesson on July 29, 2024.

The hearing, sitting at a civic building, heard the attacker's brother Dion Rudakubana warned a close contact there was a possibility of his relative "doing something deadly."

The investigation was told he messaged his friend over the Discord messaging app: "The fights are frightening because of the risk of someone dying."

The sibling stated his sibling resembled the sociopathic murderer in the film the Coen brothers film.

Growing Tensions

Proceedings learned he was diagnosed with a medical condition at the early teens which caused him needing mobility assistance and his mother and father offering greater support.

When asked by the inquiry counsel, attorney, if that affected their bond he replied: "Strain developed that came about."

Dion agreed his brother showed bitterness toward this change.

He told the investigation that after the household relocated from their previous home to the seaside town his relative's behavior deteriorated and he would have "violent outbursts."

The hearing was informed he became "progressively concerned" of his sibling, who would hit him regularly.

He stated: "I was forced to be wary if I did speak to him because any disagreement could escalate into an confrontation."

'Real worries'

Dion said his relative became much more aggressive after he was removed from Range High School in the local area, in October 2019.

The lawyer inquired: "You held real worries that your brother would murder a individual of your household?"

He answered: "If things escalated to that point."

The counsel asked how his parents responded to the relative's physical conduct.

"There was no point to seek to penalize him," he said. "Also, there was a significant danger in taking that action.

"We discussed there was a general risk to well-being in everyday talk, if you seek to address him... it would not end well."

When questioned if his parents had lost control of his brother, he concurred.
